Pronoun it - Het Hij or zij

When we are using it as a subject pronoun to call or replace a noun. There are rules in Ducth. Hij means he, het is it and ze is they. But when you are refer to a noun, then they have to changed as following rules.
Het is used for a het-word (neuter).
Waar is mijn potlood? Het is rood. (het potlood)
Where is my pencil? It is red.

Hij is used for a de-word (masculine).
Wat een auto! Hij is mooi. (de auto)
What a car! It is nice.

Zij/ze is used for plurals (het meervoud) word or things and person more than one.
De kinderen spelen buiten. Zij zijn blij.
The kinderen are playing outside. It (they) are happy.
