Nieuwjaarsdag and Oudejaarsdag (Oud en Nieuw) - It is the first day of the year. Offices, banks, shop and businesses are closed. Dutch people are enjoy visiting friends, family, sending New Year's cards and presents. Their tradition eating are olieballen (deep fried donut balls) and appelflappen (deep fried apple pies). They enjoy watching fireworks which set off during midnight of 31 December and 1 January and diving their boat into the North Sea, lakes or canals.
Koninginnedag - The Queen's official birthday. It is previous queen Juliana's birthday (30 April). And in 30 April 1980 Queen Beatrix becomes queen, so queen's day remained the same. In the Netherlands is celebrated with parties, street markets, concerts and special events for the royal family. They will dress or decorate their house or office in orange and red, white and blue flag ( the Netherlands flag's color).
Dodenherdenking - The day of the memorial to the Dutch victims of World War II. The commemorations include a ceremony, at Nationaal Monument on Dam Square in Amsterdam by the Queen and representatives of government, the military resistance movement and various organizations and groups in society. At 20.00 hour Dutch people throughout the country observed two minutes silence. Bus, tram and train standing still.
Bevrijdingsdag - On Liberation Day (May 5th) is celebrated and remembered that the Netherlands was liberated in 1945 by the British, Canadians and Americans. The Germans (Nazis) capitulated on that day in the Netherlands. Many other European countries were also the days before and after liberation on May 8. Liberation Day is also called 'Freedom Day'.
Prinsjesdag - This day the queen will speak from the throne. The speech is about the plan for the country from the government.
Sinterklaas - It is a day for children's party to celebrate on 5 December. St. Nicholas and his servant (Zwarter Piet) are come from Spain with the steamboat to bring gifts for the children.
