'Zie de maan schijnt door de bomen'. Je kent het Sinterklaasliedje vast wel. Ook op cadeaupapier en in sinterklaasboekjes zie je vaak plaatjes van een maan die door de bomen schijnt. Maar die plaatjes kloppen volgens een deskundige vaak helemaal niet.
Op heel veel plaatjes staat namelijk de verkeerde maan. Een hoogleraar uit Groningen heeft twee weken lang onderzoek gedaan naar de manen op cadeauverpakkingen en kinderboeken.

Er is natuurlijk maar één maan. Maar omdat die om de aarde draait, zie je de maan 's avonds van een andere kant dan 's morgens. Daardoor lijkt het of er twee verschillende manen zijn: een ochtendmaan en een avondmaan.

De deskundige kwam erachter dat op veel plaatjes de maan staat die je 's morgens ziet en niet de avondmaan. En dat is natuurlijk gek omdat het liedje gaat over pakjesavond en niet over pakjesochtend.
